Political correctness is one of the cornerstones of neo-Marxism. This book flouts political correctness by offering perspectives that are unpopular with the left-wing orthodoxy that dominates much of American academia. The author includes a bibliography of works to substantiate his points.

NATIVE AMERICANS: NOT BLACK AND WHITE

Thomas E. Woods, the author, does not deny that European settlers did wrongs to Indians. However, he shows that the history was neither one-sided nor all negative.

RIGHTS OF GUN OWNERSHIP

Woods debunks the contention that the “well-regulated militia” of the Second Amendment merely refers to state-organized units, such as the National Guard.

NO CONSTITUTIONAL LICENSE FOR CRADLE-TO-GRAVE SOCIALISM

The author points out that Promoting the Common Welfare does not give the Federal government a blank check to do whatever it wants.

THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR

In discussing the War Between the States, Woods points out that it was not a civil war. It was a war between one nation (the USA) and the new secessionist nation (the CSA). He also shows that freeing the slaves did not become a goal of the USA until some 18 months into the war. Instead, restoring the Union was the goal. Woods also shows that Lincoln had very negative views of African-Americans.

UNDEMONIZING CAPITALISM

Far from being exploitive barons, the early capitalists did much that raised the standard of living. He also suggests that government intervention, as during the Great Depression, actually made economic problems worse.

THE ADVANCEMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICANS CAME FROM HARD WORK, NOT LEFTIST ACTIVISM

When it comes to civil rights, the author shows that it developed gradually. The reader may be surprised to learn how much was achieved voluntarily in the South, and how much African American progress had made, well before the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

THE BOGEYMAN OF MCCARTHYISM

The author demonstrates the malevolent intentions of Communist sympathizers in the USA. He also shows that, far from being a paranoid idiot, Joseph McCarthy was correct.
