Raymond Rolak: ANN ARBOR POLISH FILM FESTIVAL IN 17th YEAR

pff2010 FINAL

“Lights……Camera……Action”……..those calls have been made. Now it is the time to view the results with the presentations of the Ann Arbor Polish Film Festival. It is the 17th year and airings will be on November 19th and 20th. All previews will be at the Michigan Theater and Lorch Hall Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus. Presentations will be in Polish with English subtitles.

The Ann Arbor Polish Film Festival is sponsored by the Polish Cultural Fund-Ann Arbor in cooperation with the Polish-American Congress Ann Arbor Chapter, the University of Michigan’s Polish Club, and the University of Michigan.

In addition to movie screenings, in the past the Festival has hosted distinguished Polish filmmakers and actors, such as Zbigniew Rybczynski, (director, Oscar for Best Short in 1983), Andrzej Fidyk (documentary filmmaker, member of the European Film Academy), Marcel Lozinski (documentary filmmaker, Oscar nomination in 1994), and Cezary Pazura, triple winner of the “Golden Duck Award” for best Polish actor.

This year’s special guest will be film director Agnieszka Wójtowicz-Vosloo. She will discuss the After.Life presentation. The story line is of a horrific car accident victim, Anna (Christina Ricci) who wakes up to find the local funeral director Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) preparing her body for her funeral. Anna doesn’t believe she’s dead, despite the funeral director’s reassurances that she is merely in transition to the afterlife. She will be present after the viewing for questions and discussion.

Admission will be $10, seniors and students $ 6.
